When editing images, the UNDO operation can be performed after each image adjustment.
Because ImageRanger allows to change multiple images with a single click, the UNDO buffer is only limited by the memory of your computer.
The default memory limit used for UNDO operations is 1GB.
Non-Destructive Editing
ImageRanger supports various options for storing data such as adjusted images, file ratings, keywords, face tags, etc.
This setting is used when 'Save' button is pressed or when metadata change is needed.
Allow change of pixels and metadata
With this default option the software will overwrite original image file.
Any changes to the metadata will be written directly to the original file.
For the file formats which does not support metadata, the sidecar files are created and used automatically.
Pixels changes not allowed, metadata change allowed
Rating, tagging images will affect metadata in the original image file.
When cropping or adjusting image quality, etc. the new copy will be created upon saving because this mode dissalows changing of the pixels in the original files.
No changes allowed, use sidecar files
This option enables using sidecar files for all files, including images.
The software is not allowed to change contents of the original files but new sidecar files are created when needed.
Note when using this mode: the meta data stored in the image file may not be allways synchronized with the internal ImageRanger index information and in the sidecar files.
Read only mode, use internal index
The software will not change contents of the original files and no sidecar files will be created.
A new copy of the file will be created when saving.
All ratings, face tags, keywords, etc. are stored only in internal index database.
Note when using this mode: the meta data stored in the image file may not be allways synchronized with the internal ImageRanger index information.
Also when using read only mode: the face tags, ratings, keywords, etc. will be erased and lost when ImageRanger index files are reset or removed.
