Geotags Filter

Use the geotags filter to search for images created at a specific location.

The geotags filter will load the meta information block (EXIF) of the image to read the associated location information. The images which have associated position information are called geotagged images.

In cases where geo information is available, the filter can read the associated position of the image and calculate the distance to any fixed location.

According to the entered settings, the calculated distance is used to discard or accept the image for the search results.

Geotags Filter

Method 1: Enter city name to automatically use the corresponding GPS coordinates

When a city name is entered into the City/Town input field, the coordinates of the city would be automatically pasted into the Latitude/Longitude fields.

The Distance parameter is determined automatically based on estimated population size of the entered city.

Method 2: reading coordinates from another image.

The Browse... button in the filter configuration dialog could be used to read geo information from an arbitrary image.

If the selected image is geotagged, the coordinates can be extracted and inserted into the filter configuration dialog.

Method 2: specify the location coordinates manually.

To configure the filter setting the reference location coordinates and the maximum acceptable distance are required
The Latitude and Longitude settings could be provided in the Signed Decimal Degrees format.

Various online resources can assist in getting the coordinates of any point on the world map.
Check also the ImageRanger online GEO location tool.

Recommendations

To find images located at a specific distance to the reference location, combine several geotag filters together into more complex search criteria.

For example to find all images located further than 10 meters from a given location, use the geotags as an exception filter with a combination of All Images filter:
