When working with big archives, it is useful to be able to store and retrieve a set of images after the search has returned results.
Futhermore, collection files are useful to store manual image ordering. This way it is possible to organize different slide shows for the same set of files which will be shown in a different order based on user defined sorting.
Even for lengthy searches, it is possible to interrupt the search and store the current results in a separate file.
Choose File -> Save As... from the Main Menu to store a new collection file.
The collection file will contain the locations of all files which are shown in the thumbnail preview area.
Note: the content of the images is not saved in the collection file. The collection file always stores the locations of the original images.
Therefore, collection files are small and can also be copied from one PC to another (this makes sense only if both PCs are sharing same data storage).
To load the collection, choose File -> Open... in the Main Menu.
When a collection is loaded again each file will be checked and loaded, therefore there is no need to run the search another time.
It might happen that some files are no longer available when a collection is loaded. In such cases ImageRanger will show the following warning:
The rest of the collection will be loaded and shown on the screen. The files which are missing are permanently removed from the collection.
Note: when a collection with missing files is saved again, the missing file locations will no longer be stored.
