Local Contrast Filter

The local contrast filter is useful for various tasks such as finding good and poor quality images or to search for document scans.

Example images:
                                      (low local contrast image)

                                      (high local contrast image)

Another common use for the image contrast filter is to locate blurry photos.

When the local contrast filter is used, the following configuration dialog is shown:

Use the approximate scale (0 to 100) to set the local contrast rating for a specific image.

The algorithm attempts to estimate the visual contrast of the image details.

Since there is no single valid and objective method available for all kinds of images, the results may differ significantly for different types of images.

To see how the software determines the local contrast, simply run the search with the full range (0...100) contrast filter setting.

Once the search results appear on the screen, select any image to see its Local contrast rating in the File Information area:

Note: contrast values are not shown by default in the File Information view but appear only when Image contrast filter is used in the search criteria.
