Most digital cameras write photo capture information directly to the image file using a standard (such as EXIF, XMP, IPTC) metadata format.
When new capture information is set for the image file, the new data is written into the EXIF metadata section of the original file. This way the capture information can be retrieved from images using other standard software.
It is also possible to set capture Data/Location information for any non-image file. In this case, the data is saved in the ImageRanger index files.
Note that copying or moving the non-image file will erase capture information.
If you need to set or modify capture information manually, select a file and choose the Set... item in the contextual menu or under the top Edit menu.
How to set Capture Time.
When Set... Capture Time... option is selected, ImageRanger will show a calendar where date and time can be modified.
Once the OK button is pressed the capture time information is written directly to the image file using EXIF and XMP metadata formats.
How to set Capture Location.
For the older images it might be useful to set capture location. Select Set... Capture Location... in the drop down menu to see the capture location dialog.
ImageRanger has built it coordinates of the major world cities. To select a city, start typing the name in the City/Town input field.
Once the city is selected, the coordinates are automatically populated into the Latitude / Longitude fields.
By default ImageRanger uses some predefined coordinates inside the city area. These coordinates can be further changed to represent any custom capture location.
Alternatively, it is possible to read the GPS coordinates directly from another image. Select Browse... and choose another image which contains capture location coordinates.
Adding Custom Locations
It is possible to extend the list of available locations by specifying a new GPS location and a new name.
To add a new entry into the locations list, click on the Save Location... button.
After filling details of a new location, a new record will be stored in the locations list.
To remove a location, use Remove Location... button on top of the window.
