Sort Into Folders

The Sort Into Folders batch opertion is useful for organizing the image storage into specific directory structure.

ImageRanger will recursively read all images specified in the source folder, including those residing in the subfolders and create a new folder structure, based on the image file properties such as capture time or capture location.

Each file will be copied into the new corresponding folder in the destination location.

Sort Into Folders

In the basic scenarios the output folders can be configured in several predefined ways based on year, month, city, and land.

The advanced mode can be configured by selecting "Custom" folder naming template.

In the advanced mode the user can specify a customized folder naming structure. The following special sequences will be replaced with the actual values:

%tttt
file type (Images, Videos, Documents, etc.)
%e
file extension
%yy
the year as two digit number(00 - 99)
%yyyy
the year as four digit number
%c
nearest city of the image capture location
%l
land of the image capture location
%d
day without leading zero
%dd
the day as number with a leading zero(01 to 31)
%ddd
the abbreviated day name, e.g. 'Mon' to 'Sun'
%MM
the month as number with a leading zero(01 - 12)
%MMM
(the abbreviated month name, e.g. 'Jan' to 'Dec')
%MMMM
the long month name, e.g. 'January' to 'December'

If the image file has no required meta information it would be processed according to the settings specified in the configuration dialog.

When the image file contains no capture date information, it is placed into the unknown_date folder.

When there is no capture location data available, the image is placed into the unknown_city or unknown_country folders.

Note, it is possible to set capture date and location data manually using the Set... menu.
